Positive Attitude

How can you know what you have in your heart? The answer is simple; just watch what is coming from your mouth.

Have you ever noticed how fun it is to be around positive thinking people? No matter how bad the circumstance, negativity never enters their minds, or crosses their lips to form negative, words!

Negative attitudes come from negative thoughts. We know that none of this negative stuff is coming from God.

How do we get to a place where our positive attitude is natural?

God's version of a right attitude contains nothing negative. It starts with right thoughts — God’s thoughts!

Philippians 4:8
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
Matthew 15:11
It is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person, but what comes out of the mouth; this defiles a person.”
Matthew 12:33-37
“Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or make the tree bad and its fruit bad, for the tree is known by its fruit. You brood of vipers! How can you speak good, when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. The good person out of his good treasure brings forth good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure brings forth evil. I tell you, on the Day of Judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”
Proverbs 15:1
A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger

Karen Wolff of Christian-Books-for-Women.com has tips for positive thinking
  • First, focus on what you're thinking about.

It is possible to control our thoughts, regardless of what we've been led to believe. As soon as a negative thought comes into your mind, purposefully make it a point to replace it with a positive one. (2 Corinthians 10:5) At first, this may take some work, because chances are, we will probably have a lot more negative thoughts in our head than positive ones. But eventually, the ratio will reverse itself.

  • Second, stop letting other people's negative attitudes influence yours.

This may mean we need to stop hanging around with people who do nothing but spout negative stuff. We can't afford to do this when our goal is to become more positive. The negative people in our life aren't going to like it when we stop participating in negativity. Just remember that birds of a feather really do flock together.

  • Third, make a list of all the areas in your life that you want to change.

List all your negative attitudes too. If you can't think of things to put on your list, just ask your family. I'll bet they'll help you make it a really long list!

  • Fourth, take some time to write strong, life-giving, positive affirmation statements.

Make a commitment to read those statements out loud every day. Enjoy how great they make you feel. Know in your heart that you're making progress, even if you can't see it just yet. Just keep affirming the positive.

  • Lastly, take time to pray about this.

You can't change by yourself. But you can spend time with the One who is able to help. Do what you can, and let God do the rest. It really is that simple.

Wanna Ride???

A little box turtle lives in our backyard. We have named the turtle "Speedy". It is hysterical to watch Ellie play with Speedy. She will occupy herself for hours. You would think Speedy would find a new home. Possibly Speedy enjoys Ellie! For the past two weeks, we keep finding Speedy in the swimming pool. I couldn't resist the photos!

Visit to Greenwood

Dylan Reece Upchurch was born on October 1, 2008 at 24 weeks, 16 weeks premature. Dylan weighed 1 pound 5 ounces and was 11 inches long. He has finally made it to thirteen pounds and 24 1/2 inches long.

Courtney and I went to Greenwood today. We were excited to visit with Les, Paige, Beth and Dylan. Courtney couldn’t wait to give them their “happies”. It always takes Beth a little while to warm-up! After opening their gifts, Beth was ready to play! The first game to play is Beth’s favorite - Candy land. Beth won 3 games and Courtney won only two. Now, Beth was in charge!! Beth made a snack all by herself. Beth and Courtney had homemade snow cones - bubble gum flavor. Yummy! Next, it was time to play with the Groovy Girls. Beth instructed Courtney how to dress each doll. It is so much fun watching her boss Courtney! Then the girls played games on the Iphone!

Little Dylan has to be the sweetest baby I have ever been around! He is the happiest little baby. He enjoyed his lunch, nap and playtime. He played with his keys almost the entire time. Paige thinks he has a tooth trying to come in. He would gum the keys and talk to himself. He will wear his glasses for short periods of time. When he wants them off he will snatch them off before you know it.

Paige explained Dylan’s doctor visits. They go to Jackson ever week in July. Paige and Les have been through so much and have witnessed numerous new friends that lost their preemies. Paige has met some truly amazing new lifetime friends. We all pray Dylan will continue to improve!

"FuNkY"

Well, it is that time of year again - annual eye exam. Courtney has outgrown her glasses; therefore, we must order some new ones along with new boxes of contacts. She already has something in mind for glasses. She only wears the glasses at night when she removes the contacts. We drive to Olive Branch Eye Care. This is the place to go for the “Best “eye exam. After maybe a 5 minute wait Courtney is called back. Dr. Parker exams her eyes and explains he needs to tweak the left eye just a little. Of course you got to get those eyes dilated! While the dilated drops are taking effect, Dr. Parker instructs the ladies up front to help Courtney pick out some “funky” glasses. Now that is one hip Doc. Immediately she spots the stand with the “funky” glasses. She tries on four pair and picks out “The One”! Dr Parker is in agreement with her choice….pastel green Juicy Couture! Gotta love a girl with great taste!

"Busy-As-A-Bee"

Courtney has been extremely busy this summer. The summer starts off with a “Bang” with cheer practice EVERY week. Courtney made varsity cheer for DCHS. She is thrilled to be one of the only two freshmen that are on the squad. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday we have tumbling, Tues-Thursday practice. The back handspring did not come easy but she has accomplished! She is still perfecting the landing.

VBS started Sunday night. Courtney is Crew Leader for 7 & 8 yr. olds. As soon as she gets in the car, she describes every detail! She explains it is so "neat" for the little ones to look up to her.

In two weeks the GRUMC youth group will be leaving for church camp. Look out Panama City!
